Grady and DeMuth along with Kevin Slottke, have created an “initiative” with the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, and the WSLS Foundation (commonly known as the School Counselor Initiative) to promote the Land Survey Profession to the school counselors of Wisconsin.

In addition to Grady, DeMuth and Slottke, the initiative includes a core group of dedicated surveyors from around Wisconsin (basically a representative from each chapter).

Both the WSLS and the WSLS Foundation support the initiative monetarily, with additional support coming from the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS – posters, swag, handouts), Get Kids into Surveying (GKiS – posters, comic books, stickers).

Giveaway items included a 3” diameter refrigerator magnet (shown above), a very nice pen, and a business card, all with the same message. Approximately 200 of each were given away.

This email will be received by Steve, Kevin and Jeff, who will identify the location of the school and reach out to the appropriate core group member and ask if they are available to present. If they are not available, they will contact their respective chapter for a presenter.

The initiative will supply age-appropriate materials and talking points for use at the presentation, as well as a $100 gift card for each presenter, mileage reimbursement at the current IRS rate, and a letter of gratitude sent to your employer.

Many of the counselors expressed interest in our offer, and since the 2023 conference we have helped organize 4 presentations and we expect many more this winter and spring.
